The health crisis is dreadful where in the UK we have the NHS to thank for the intervention to this point. A truly amazing Health Service. The Global Health crisis has some time to run, according to expert health professionals. We must trust in social accord and the direction of the medical policy makers and front-line action of Doctors, Nurses and Health Care professionals and essential workers so that we can return to a new normal as soon as possible. It is clear that ‘main street’ health is somewhat disconnected to ‘Wall Street’ and ‘Square Mile’ positivity currently. There has been huge financial support for the economy in the UK and US which has clearly produced strength to investment markets this week along with health optimism increasing somewhat. Bill Ackman – a leading Hedge Fund Manager at Pershing Square Holdings stated earlier in the week – “I’m beginning to get optimistic” Recovery It is impossible to predict when the Global Health crisis recovers – likewise it is impossible to predict when investment markets are able to trade in ‘full health’ – but for long-term investors who are able to invest new capital – the dreadful health crisis has produced a considerable long-term opportunity. We are reading about a ‘new normal’ which is forecasting an economy running at 60-70% capacity for some time to come – with bumps in the road, which vary from modelling predictions to actual experience. Nevertheless, we see many opportunities so if you want to discuss your position, simply get in touch. A good financial plan A solid financial plan enables an investor to dip into cash reserves during a time of crisis (although 2 weeks ago some were predicting ‘Hell’). Holding cash reserves is essential. The important position is to never ‘knee jerk’ and react to sell. ‘Time in’ in respect of investing is so very important – with a time horizon of 5 years plus rather than 6-12 months as an investment time horizon. Investment Activity We have been very busy with new investment money over the last 2-3 weeks, which is pleasing, as the long-term nature of investing is essential and the message has been understood by investors.
